Steven Raichlen Cast Iron Smoking Grate/Plancha
This ique grilling tool gives you several different cooking experiences in one, all with the high heat of cast iron. The solid cast iron base can be used alone as a Plancha to sear meats, or as one part of a grilling amp; smoking platform. To use as a smoker, add wood chips to the base amp; place the grate on top so that your food cooks directly over the chips, taking on a delicious smoky flavor. This set also includes a stainless steel humidifier, so you can keep your meats moist with steam from your choice of water, marinade, beer, or wine. The strong, pre-seasoned cast iron of the Plancha base amp; grate retain high heat so your food is cooked perfectly, whether seared, grilled, or smoked. HOW TO USE: To use as a plancha: make sure the solid plancha base is clean amp; the cooking surface is lightly brushed with oil. Preheat on your grill amp; use to cook meats or other foods on its flat surface. To use as a grill / smoker: pre-heat both the base amp; the grate on your grill, assembled with both piece on your grill top. When you're ready to cook, place several handfuls of pre-soaked wood chips into the solid base. If you wish, fill the stainless steel reservoir with liquid amp; hook over the back of the base. (Note: Do not pre-heat with wood chips or liquid already in your grill / smoker; these should be added after the cast iron has come to temperature.) using heat-safe gloves or mitts, pick up the grate by its handles amp; place on top of the base. Brush grates lightly with oil, then grill or smoke your food on top of the grate according to your recipe. CARE: Wait for piece to cool completely before cleaning. Wash cast iron parts with hot water; do not use soap. Dry immediately. Wash humidifier with mild dishwashing soap, rinse, amp; dry immediately. Do not use metallic scrubbers. Do not soak. Make sure used wood chips are completely cool before disposing. CAUTION: This item will become very hot. Use oven mitt or glove when handling.
